Private Yoga
You know how, when you try on your best friend’s favorite green sweater, and the sleeves are slightly too short for you? You put it on and want to love it so much, but it just doesn’t feel right.
You’re constantly tugging at the sleeves trying to get it to fit. You hold the sleeves down with your fingers and decidedly wear it out because, dammit, you love this shirt. But the whole time you’re out you're thinking “ugh, this shirt doesn’t fit and it doesn’t feel right”. Your yoga practice is exactly the same. |
Try to ‘put on’ your friend’s yoga practice, and chances are high that it just won’t feel right. It will probably still feel good to an extent, but it could feel SO much better.
Maybe your right hip is tighter than your left and it makes Warrior 1 on that side so much harder. Maybe your chest muscles are super tight because you’ve been carrying your 28 lb toddler around since he was a teeny baby and now your shoulders won’t open up like they used to in Upward Dog. Maybe group classes feel intimidating because of that knee injury you’ve been struggling with your entire life.

You don’t have to try to figure it all out on your own.
Your yoga practice can feel like an exploration, meant to open your muscles in ways you’ve never felt before…safely. It can create space. And freedom. And lightness. You deserve to have a yoga practice that fits your body in that exact moment you’re on your yoga mat - and know exactly how to access it on your own as well. You deserve the private attention to break down the minutiae of your yoga practice - to gain a deep understanding of how your body works. And you deserve to have some fun while you're doing it. Because if you're not having fun, what's the point? |
